Shepherd Community is celebrating the completion of the Shepherd Road Bridge with a parade and program.
The Shepherd Center and the Shepherd Community Action Council will sponsor a Community Homecoming and Bridge Completion Ceremony. The festivities will be held on Saturday with a parade, program, and picnic.
The parade will feature the Tyner High Academy Band and will begin at 12:30 p.m. The parade will begin at the Shepherd Park and Tuskegee Boulevard, proceed to Fisk Avenue, to Shepherd Road, over the newly completed bridge, and finish at the Shepherd Center.
Residents and spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to view the parade from the sidewalk and in front of Highland Cemetery. Cars may be parked at the Shepherd Center, the parking lot of the Metropolitan Tabernacle Church, or the vacant lot across from the Highland Cemetery.
A brief program will be held at 1 p.m at the gym in the Shepherd Center. The former and 2016 Little Mr. and Little Miss Shepherd contestants will be presented during the program. Brief remarks will follow, given by Terry Hart, president of the Chattanooga Airport Authority, Mayor Andy Berke, Councilwoman Carol Berz, and members of the Shepherd Community Action Council.
The community festivities will be followed with a free picnic. Activities include music, face painting, games, animals from the Chattanooga Zoo, and various information stations. Festivities will conclude at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
