McKamey Animal Center's second annual Barktoberfest and Meowlloween will be held on Saturday at McKamey Animal Center, 4500 North Access Road.
There will be adoption specials all day long from 11-7 p.m., and in the evening from 5-9 p.m. the festivities kick off with a Beer Garden with ale and food. Trick or treating in the woods starts at 6 p.m. There will be a dog costume contest, a human costume contest, a kid's outdoor movie, and $15 microchipping for pets.
"Where else can you bring the whole family, kids and dogs to trick or treat in the haunted woods and maybe add a new member to the family?" officials said.
The adoption specials are: all dogs $31 and all cats are $13.
The Beer Garden tickets are available online or at the door, $30 each or two for $45. Trick or treating in the woods and the costume contests are free with a toy or food donation for the shelter animals.
The dog costume contest starts at 5:30 p.m., cat costume (photos only) at 6:15 p.m., and the human costume contest is 6 p.m.
McKamey Animal Center takes in over 6,000 animals annually, officials said. The proceeds from this event help to defray the medical and veterinary costs associated with the extensive care of the ill and injured animals arriving at the center daily.
Volunteers are still needed to work at the event. If interested, email volunteercoordinator@mckameyanimalcenter.org.
