WDEF TV anchor/reporter Amy Katcher has been chosen for a new public relations position at the Hamilton County Schools.
Interim Supt. Kirk Kelly said, "We had many excellent candidates, but we chose Amy Katcher."
He noted that she has two bachelor degrees, plus a master's degree.
The county schools at one time had a media relations person, but the last superintendent, Rick Smith, dropped the position.
Ms. Katcher is a graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of arts in Radio and Television Production and of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Geosciences with an emphasis in Meteorology.
She began her career in television in one of the coldest places in the contiguous 48 states - Presque Isle, Maine. After one year as weekend weather/weekday reporter and two years as chief weather anchor/morning show co-anchor she set her sights on a much warmer climate. She spent two years as the weekend meteorologist/weekday reporter at a station in Chattanooga and fell in love with the area and the weather. She then took a job as morning meteorologist at WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia. While away, her now husband, Mike Dunne, proposed, bringing Ms. Katcher back to Chattanooga.
She earned the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorologial Society in 2005 and was named Best Weathercaster in the state of Maine in 2003.
She served on the board of directors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was also presented with the 2014 Hometown Heroes Chairman's Award from the American Red Cross.
