The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga fell 1-0 at VMI Friday afternoon in Southern Conference women’s soccer action. The Mocs move to 6-9-2 overall and 4-3-1 against the league. VMI improves to 7-10 on the year and 4-4 in conference play.
“It was a disappointing result,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. “VMI worked extremely hard and made things difficult for us.”
VMI’s Sierra Brewer scored her second goal of the year heading in a corner kick in the 20th minute of the match and that would stand as the game winner.
Chattanooga was outshot 25-14 and edged 9-7 on shots on goal.
Senior Katie Emig (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the start and made eight saves. Freshman Jordan Mueller (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and Anna Moore (Bristol, Tenn.) each had a team-high three shots while junior Ellie Myrick (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman Hannah Torbett (Johnson City, Tenn.) each had two shots.
Senior Hannah Wyatt (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) had a shot stopped when VMI’s keeper came way out but managed a sprawling save to keep the Mocs off the board.
“We have a quick turnaround to our Sunday match so we must regroup,” McKinney said.
Chattanooga will close out the regular season Sunday at UNCG at 2 p.m. Follow the action live at GoMocs.com.
