Piedmont Stops Covenant Women Win Streak At Seven

 The Covenant women's soccer team saw its seven-match win streak come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 1-0 loss at Piedmont in USA South action.

Covenant (13-3, 11-2 USA South) falls for the first time since Sept. 28. The Lady Scots also saw their streak of consecutive shutout minutes come to a close at 640 minutes and 41 seconds of game play which spanned eight matches, six full contests and parts of two others. 

The Lady Scots slip to second in the USA South West Division standings with the loss, but will have an opportunity to win the division outright with a victory over Salem on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

In a defensive battle that saw just nine total shots taken, Piedmont (11-5-1, 10-2-1 USA South) got the match's lone goal in the 77th minute.
On a second consecutive corner kick, the host Lions broke through as Cassidy Reich knocked in the corner off the foot of Tori Gillett to give Piedmont a 1-0 lead. The goal was the fifth of the season for Reich, the reigning USA South Player of the Year.

Covenant would not be able to put another shot on goal in the final minutes of the match as Piedmont took the victory.

Covenant keeper Rachel Lemay made one save on the afternoon, while Piedmont's Cierra Belinkie also collected one save. Piedmont held a 7-2 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.Anna Robertson and Summer Bader each took one shot for the Lady Scots.

Covenant will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday to face Salem in the regular season finale. Kickoff has been moved up to a 4 p.m. start.
