The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team opened with four-over par 292 in the Palmetto Intercollegiate first round. That puts the ladies tied with Coastal Carolina, two shots behind Ole Miss at +2.
Sophomore Monica San Juan is tied for first individually at 2-under 70. She placed five birdies on her card including two in a crucial stretch late in the round.
The Mocs were eight over with the five student-athletes stretched between holes 11-14. San Juan and freshman Maria Pineiro played 5 under the rest of the way with Holly Morgan and Cristina Perez parring out.
San Juan followed bogies on 12 and 13 with birdies at 14 and 15. Pineiro birdied three of her last six to propel the squad up the leaderboard.
Pineiro and Morgan each shot 73 (+1) and join San Juan in the top 10 tying for ninth. Perez’s 76 rounded out the counting scores, while Megan Woods’ 79 was the drop tally.
San Juan is tied with the Rebels’ Madisen Bentley and host College of Charleston’s Laura Fuenfsteuck. While UTC and CCU are within two shots of Ole Miss in first, they are clear of the fourth-place Cougars and Kennesaw State by seven.
