Bea Lurie To Step Down As CEO Of Girls Inc.

  • Wednesday, October 26, 2016
Bea Lurie, president and CEO of Girls Inc. of Chattanooga, will be resigning from her position effective Jan. 6, 2017, announced Gina Dhanani, chairwoman of the board.

"Under Bea's leadership, Girls Inc. of Chattanooga has become an acknowledged and respected force for girls in our community and has earned numerous accolades and recognitions. Bea has been instrumental in strengthening the professionalism of our staff, the quality and effectiveness of our programs, especially their measurable outcomes, and substantially increased the number of girls served and funds raised.
She leaves the organization well positioned for its continued success in the future."

Since joining Girls Inc. in September 2007, Ms. Lurie has led the expansion of the organization to serve more girls and young women in more programs.  Under her leadership, Girls Inc. has launched new programs focused on literacy, college readiness, STEM, public speaking, women's history, and leadership through community action.  Among the many accomplishments during her tenure is that 100% of the girls who finish with Girls Inc. in their senior year have gone on to college.

"Of all the different nonprofit corporations that serve our community, Girls Inc. stands out as one that has delivered real results to improve the lives of young people.  Bea Lurie has made great contributions for our community as president and CEO of Girls Inc.  I know that she will continue to do so," said Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger.

"Bea Lurie's passion and focus has been a driving force in changing the lives of girls and women in our community.  Because of that passion and focus, Girls Inc. has been a great partner for the City in our work to create new opportunities for young people. While we will miss Bea's leadership at Girls Inc., I am delighted that she will continue her work with the Mayor's Council for Women as co-chair of the Education Committee and chair of the Healthy Sexuality Education Committee," said Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke.

"Bea Lurie will be much missed as the leader and advocate for girls and Girls Inc. of Chattanooga and as an engaged elected regional representative to the National Board of Directors.  For nine years Bea served the community with unsurpassed commitment to creating opportunities and access for girls, propelling many to partner with her.  She led Girls Inc. to achieve significant growth in girls served and funding raised and positioned the organization for continued success," said Girls Inc. President and CEO Judy Vredenburgh.

Following her resignation, Ms. Lurie plans to continue her involvement with Girls Inc. of Chattanooga as a donor, fund-raiser and volunteer.
