Art Exhibition Opens At Townsend Atelier

  • Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Townsend Atelier is excited to announce a special new thematic exhibit of artwork by its students and instructors called CIRCLE. The exhibition will open on Saturday, Dec. 3 during the legendary MainX24, and run through Dec. 31. The exhibit is an opportunity to view and collect affordable artwork from some of the area’s best professional and emerging artists.  Exhibiting artists are from Chattanooga, North Carolina, Delaware, Alabama, Georgia, and Arizona to name a few.

Over 100 students and instructors of Townsend Atelier were each given a small 4” round pulp board coaster and challenged to use it as a surface on which to create anything they wish.  No limits were given as to the theme, imagery or medium, as long as artwork stayed within the 4” round format and was not priced over $300.  The variety of works runs the gamut and includes landscapes, portraits,  oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, collages, relief sculptures and  printmaking.  There will be over 200 works from which to choose and will be a great way to get some holiday shopping done.

Co-owner, Stan Townsend says “ For us,  the circle is a perfect symbol for what we do at Townsend Atelier.

The cyclical tradition of artistic knowledge and skills being passed down from teacher to student through classes and mentorship is a time honored tradition and one that we are proud to keep alive at our atelier.  The strong circle of art community and friendships formed through our studio is so rewarding to be a part of.  For this exhibit, it will be fun to see the different ways each artist approaches the same circle format.”
