Wendell Allen
Wendell Allen, 69, Chattanooga native, died on Friday, October 28, 2016.
Wendell was a graduate of Howard High School (1965); B.S. in History and Physics (1970) Fisk University; Master’s Degree in Public Administration (1987) Eastern Michigan University; attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law & University of The South School of Theology.
He served as city councilman and county commissioner of Ann Arbor, MI.; member of Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.; Who’s Who Among Black America; The United Supreme 33rd and last Degree of the Ancient Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Alva Mae (Vines); sister, Mary Fannie Allen; brothers, James Sr. and Jo Melvin Allen; "beloved daughter” Dr. Kristen Allen.
He is survived by his devoted wife for 19 years and lifelong friend, Sarah F. Allen; dedicated daughter and care giver, Megan Jones; daughter, Dr. Adrienne (Matthew) Skinner and grandson, Aiden Skinner (Aurora, IL); son, Ian Allen (Ann Arbor, MI); extended family: Darleene (Pastor J.W.) Cole, Robert Harris, Senneca (Amanda) Harris and Aubrey Thomas; brothers and sisters: William (Cheryl), Chester (Janet), Chris (Beverly), Margaret, Elma (Al) Norris and Ernestine Walker; host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, Nov. 5, at St. Thaddaeus Episcopal Church at 1 p.m.; visitation at noon; committal, following memorial service in the church's garden.
