RiverRocks Highlights For Oct. 3-9

RiverRocks kicked off its 2016 schedule with a full weekend of high profile outdoor adventure sports and entertainment events, including the 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival on Friday and Saturday, as well the Stump Jump 50k, 15k and kids trail run. Other events included rock climbing on the Walnut Wall and a weekend of walks and activities at Lula Lake to celebrate Founders Day. 

This week continues with several opportunities to enjoy Chattanooga’s outdoors with a family-friendly Pedal & Paddle excursion along South Chick Creek from 5-8 p.m. a Snail Darter open water half mile and one mile swim along Chattanooga’s waterfront beginning at 5 p.m. 

Enjoy free bluegrass by The Von Womps at the Fireside Music Series at Greenway Farms on Thursday, as well as canoe rental for a canoeing excursion from 7-9 p.m. A special Owl Prowl and Frog Walk at Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center will be held on Friday. The Frog Walk is at 7 p.m., followed by the Owl Prowl at 8:15 p.m. 

Seasoned and new rowing competitors will gather at Ross’ Landing on Saturday for the 16th annual Chattanooga Head Race, a 5K timed rowing event organized by the Lookout Rowing Club. This race begins at 8 a.m. and has great spectator appeal at the waterfront. 

Also on Saturday, the CPR race will make its RiverRocks debut as a triathlon geared especially for the outdoor adventurer. This multi-sport challenge will take participants from High Point climbing to the Tennessee River for a paddle to Baylor School before returning on an open course run back to downtown. This is a sold out event which begins at 8 a.m. at High Point, come watch. 

Another major competition on Saturday is Swim the Suck, a 10-mile open water swim through the Tennessee River Gorge. Swim the Suck is an international premier swimming event that sells out each year to 120 athletes from around the world within a matter of minutes. This race begins at the Suck Creek Boat Launch at 9:30 a.m. 

Runners will enjoy the Urban Nature 10K on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. This race winds its way through north Chattanooga’s roadways and scenic trails. This race begins at Coolidge Park.
