Charles King
Charles Anthony “Tony” King, 61, died on October 3, 2016 in a local hospital.
He was born August 9, 1955, in Chattanooga, to Aaron and Roberta King Drake. He attended the Chattanooga City Schools, graduating from Riverside High School in 1973.
Tony was a family man and devoted father, who encouraged his daughter, Danielle to pursue her goals. He was also an active and dedicated foster grandparent for the City of Chattanooga Human Services. He enjoyed playing cards, playing dominos, shooting pool and fishing.
Tony was employed in the textile industry for over 25 years and retiring after working 10 years at Blue Bird Bus Company. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard “Wayne” King, Cedric Drake, Freddie Drake, Eddie Drake and sister, Vonza King McElvain.
He is survived by his daughter, Xaviera Danielle King, Smyrna, TN; brothers, Aaron Drake, Jackson, GA; Victor (Nelle) Drake, San Diego, CA; Sherman Drake, Detroit, MI; Phillip Smith, Chattanooga, TN; sisters, Wanda (Edward) Pace, Denise Drake, Brelinda Drake, Yolanda (Roderick) Craig, Cassandra Drake Brown, Trina (Henry) McElvain; uncles, Ed and Fred King; aunt, Elizabeth (Ann) Drake, all of Chattanooga; lifelong friend, Wanda Lightford Everhart, Morristown, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, Oct. 10, in the chapel. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The body will lie in state the day of the service, from at 9–11 a.m., and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
