East Hamilton running back Jhaeden Smith rushed for two touchdowns and 132 yards and Jake McClure kicked three field goals, including a booming 57-yarder in the fourth quarter, and the Hurricanes defeated Cumberland County 37-10 in Region 3-4A high school football action in Crossville.
Smith opened the Hurricanes’ scoring with a 43-yard jaunt less than a minute into the game and added a 15-yard TD in the third quarter. Smith went well over the 100-yard mark on 15 carries, averaging 8.8 yards per rush.
In addition to McClure’s long field goal, he added kicks of 29 and 36 yards as the Hurricanes improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the region. He also kicked four extra points.
East Hamilton’s defense limited the Jets (0-7, 0-3) to 135 total yards, all on the ground. They completed one pass for no gain.
Quarterback Andrew Sturdivant scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter and completed 6 of 9 passes for 75 yards.
Drako Wise scored East Hamilton’s other touchdown on a 1-yard run and finished with 68 yards on 11 carries.
The Hurricanes piled up 345 yards of total offense.
