Dalton Man Arrested For January Car Theft

  • Thursday, November 10, 2016

Acting on an anonymous tip, officers from the Dalton Police Department arrested Jamie Michael Anderson (41) Wednesday on warrants for motor vehicle theft and financial transaction fraud.

Anderson had been wanted by police since January after stealing a car in Dalton and using the victim’s credit cards to make multiple purchases.

His accomplice in the crime was arrested in Fannin County later that same month.

The original incident happened on the afternoon of Jan. 14 when a 2007 Toyota Camry that was left unlocked with the keys and the victim’s wallet inside was stolen from a parking lot on Showalter Avenue.

A short time later, the victim’s bank cards were used and surveillance video of the transactions were obtained by Dalton investigators. On Jan. 19 pictures of two suspects were distributed by area news media outlets and the DPD’s social media accounts, and multiple people called in to identify the two suspects as Crystal Russell (aka Crystal Vanover or Crystal Nunez) (34) and Jamie Anderson.

On the night of Jan. 19, the stolen Toyota Camry was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy in Fannin County who attempted to pull the vehicle over on suspicion of impaired driving. The vehicle, driven by Anderson, did not stop and led the deputy on a short pursuit.

Fannin County deputies located the vehicle abandoned in a driveway a short while later and found Ms. Russell hiding nearby. She was taken into custody and was charged with motor vehicle theft and nine counts of financial transaction fraud. Anderson, however, got away.

The vehicle was returned to its owner.

Wednesday night, a Dalton officer received an anonymous tip that Anderson was in a unit at the Cliffs Apartments at 824 Shugart Road. Officers went to the apartment and knocked on the door multiple times. After a short wait, Anderson appeared at the door and he was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with motor vehicle theft and also nine counts of financial transaction fraud. He also has outstanding warrants in Fannin County.
