CSO Presents Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 And Elgar's Cello Concerto With Joshua Roman

  • Thursday, November 10, 2016

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera present a night of romance with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Elgar’s Cello Concerto with guest artist Joshua Roman on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 pm in the Tivoli Theatre.

Review for the performance:
Although not initially impressed with his own work, ultimately Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony became one of his most loved large-scale creations.  Words used to describe the theme of this work include passionate, ravishing, and sweeping.  The final movement is one of his most joyous and energetic movements.

Also on the program, Joshua Roman performs Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

Mr. Roman has won praise and renown for playing a wide range of repertoire with a communicative sense of musical curiosity, and a commitment to get to the interpretive core of every piece of music he performs. He is also recognized as an accomplished composer, curator, and programmer, particularly in his work as artistic director of Seattle Town Hall’s TownMusic series and in his appointment in 2015 as the first artistic advisor of Seattle’s Second Inversion, with his vision to engage and expand the classical music audience. For his creative initiatives in classical music, Roman was named a TED Senior Fellow, joining a select group of innovators of unusual accomplishments who show potential to affect the world in a positive way.

Douglas Hedwig with guest CSO Concertmaster Holly Mulcahy host Spotlight Talk, the pre-concert chat held in the Tivoli Dance Studio at 6:45 p.m. on concert night.  Following the concert, ticket holders are invited to stay in the lobby for Postlude where they can meet the guest artists and musicians and enjoy complimentary sparkling wine.

Tickets range from $21 to $83 with discounts for students and educators and can be purchased by calling the CSO Box Office at 267-8583 or online at www.chattanoogasymphony.org.
