Review for the Secret Garden:
The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox, a rich, spoiled child who is sent to live with her uncle in England after she is orphaned by a cholera outbreak in India. Archibald Craven, her uncle whom she has never met, blames Colin, his crippled son for his wife’s death, and, because of his grief, has left his manor house and son neglected. Mary’s arrival turns his routine upside down. She discovers a secret garden hidden on the manor grounds and, through her curiosity, releases the garden’s magic, changing their lives forever. The Secret Garden is a story of rebirth, transformation, and healing.
Pulitzer Prize-winner author Marsha Norman wrote the book and lyrics for the stage adaptation from the classic children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Lucy Simon wrote the music.
“The story of Mary Lennox and the Secret Garden is a timeless classic," said director Sherry Landrum. "It also was my favorite story as a child. The music is beautifully haunting and, at the same time, touching. And, to top it off, the music score will be played by an orchestra conducted by Darrin Hassevoort.”
The Secret Garden is directed by Sherry Landrum, with musical direction by Jennifer Arbogast. Lindsay Fussell is choreographer. Darrin Hassevoort conducts the orchestra. The cast includes Emma Allyn, Jessica Altemose, Jennifer Arbogast, Benjamin Brown, Rachel Burdyshaw, Selena Calecas, Christopher Cooper, Nathan Dyar, Ike Hannah, Tripp Ladd, Andrew Miller, Nicole Montgomery, Karley Moon, Richard Nichols, Josie Offutt, Will Park, Makayla Pippin, Susan Pyle, Tara Riedel, Avery Shingler, Rachel Wahlman, Peyton West, and Jonathan Wilson.
