Heavy smoke from surrounding wildfires blanketed downtown chattanooga on Sunday morning.
There was limited visibilty, and views of nearby mountains were obscured. Health officials warned of possible lung damage from exposure to all the smoke.
A fire broke out on Lookout Mountain south of the Trenton LaFayette Highway near Lookout Highlands. Some homes were in danger there and firefighters were wetting down areas near the homes.
A number of woods fires continued to burn north of the city. Authorities said most or all of those were deliberately set.
One arson arrest was made of a man who admitted setting three woods fires.
The first hope for relief from the long drought is Friday when there is a 30-percent chance of rain listed at this time.
