Work is underway on the rehabilitation and repairs of the historic Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge. The bridge is an 1890 Pennsylvania Truss Bridge, measuring approximately 2,400 feet in length, and it’s one of the longest pedestrian structures in the world. It spans the Tennessee River in the heart of downtown Chattanooga.

Work will continue through the winter months and is projected to be completed by June 2017. Activities included in this phase of repairs include:

  • Foundation and Pier Repairs

  • Steel Repairs

  • Wooden Deck Repairs

The Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge repairs are being performed as routine maintenance to extend the life of this historic Chattanooga landmark.  All efforts will be made to maintain pedestrian traffic on the bridge during construction, but the public is advised to use caution as rehabilitation work is performed.
