Bebe Heiskell Says It Will Be A Smooth Transition As Shannon Whitfield Replaces Her As Walker County Sole Commissioner

  • Tuesday, November 15, 2016

As Walker County Sole Commissioner Bebe Heiskell concludes her term, she said she has instructed her staff to be as helpful as possible in answering questions, providing information and recommendations to Commissioner-Elect Shannon Whitfield.

Commissioner Heiskell said, “I’ve had the distinct privilege of working in Walker County for the last 40 years.  Public service is something that is as much an honor as it is a responsibility.  Because of this, I want to make sure that the county continues its path to success in the future.  I will fully cooperate, advise and provide information to Shannon Whitfield as he prepares to take office in January.”

She noted the tone set nationally for transition "is one that also works on the local level. For far too long, campaigns have divided the electorate, which in turn, paralyzes incoming office holders from successfully serving all of their constituents.  I will support Commissioner-Elect Whitfield and ask my supporters to do the same.  His success will be our success and I believe I’ve laid a great foundation to do just that.”

Commissioner Heiskell said that between now and January, she would be including Commissioner-Elect Whitfield in decisions being made on behalf of Walker County.

She said, “We’ve been through a long hard fight to right the path to get quality healthcare in our community.  On this particular issue, it simply doesn’t matter which one of us in office.  Commitment to quality healthcare is something we can both agree on and I’m hopeful during Commissioner-Elect Whitfield’s tenure, we’ll see a successful conclusion to the issues we’ve faced with Erlanger.”

Here is her letter to Commisioner-Elect Whitfield:

Dear Mr. Whitfield:

Congratulations on your overwhelming victory in the Walker County in the Walker County Commissioner's race. That must surely be the highest vote count anyone ever received in Walker County. I wish the best for you and your family and also your future term of office. The citizens of our county deserve the best you have to offer and I am sure you recognize that and will provide them with the best services possible.

I look forward to a smooth transition between our  administrations and will be pleased to work with you for anything you think I might be able offer to help you with the details of the office, pending issues, and any recommendations I might be able to offer.

Please let me know when you want to start this process and I will make arrangements to welcome you to the office and provide for your needs.

Sincerely,
Bebe Heiskell
