Derrick Shepherd
Derrick Delmar Shepherd “Shep”, 44, died on Friday, November 11, 2016.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1972, in Chattanooga, to Roger and Wanda Elliott Shepherd. Derrick graduated from Tyner High School and later attended Tennessee Technology University and Chattanooga State College, where he earned a business degree.
He was a devoted member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church where he served in the Nursery Ministry and was a member of the Church School. He has also served in the Junior Usher’s Ministry, the Harold K. Lester Choir and was a Junior Deacon.
Derrick enjoyed fishing, playing sports, working in the yard, and most of all spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Louise Elliott and grandfathers, Clifton Elliott and Milton Shepherd.
Derrick is survived by his loving, devoted and caring wife, Stephnia Cox Shepherd; children, Derrick D. Shepherd, ll, Aria Shepherd and stepdaughter, Jazzmin Hall; parents, Roger and Wanda Shepherd; sisters, Dawn (Marlon) Turney and Danitra Shepherd; grandmother, Nannie Shepherd; nieces, Makiya and Liyah Turney; nephew, Mason Turney; mother-in-law, Mary Covington; father-in-law, Henry Cox; brother-in-law, Jeremy Cox; godparents, Lloyd and Patricia Sanderfur, all of Chattanooga, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
The funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Carlos D. Williams, officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.
The body will lie state after noon on Friday, Nov. 18, and the family will receive friends from 7–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
