Red Bank High School received a grant Friday from bestselling author James Patterson to support its school library.
The Scholastic Reading Club will also match each dollar of Mr. Patterson’s donation with “bonus points.” Teachers can use these points for books and other materials for their classrooms.
Red Bank High School librarian Courtney Brown received the grant. Ms. Brown said the $5,000 grant will allow her to build up the library’s collection.
“The library was renovated this summer and the kids love coming in,” Ms. Brown said. “Now we can update the collection for them.”
Red Bank was one of thousands of schools that applied for the funding grants.
Mr. Patterson announced in March he would donate $1.75 million to save school libraries nationwide in the second installment of his School Library Campaign.
As part of an ongoing effort to keep books and reading a number one priority in the United States, selected school libraries will be receiving grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
Since the grant program’s launch in 2015, Mr. Patterson has donated $3.5 million to school libraries nationwide, with all funds being personally donated by Mr. Patterson.
