Scenic City Clay Arts is moving downtown to the ArtsBuild building on 11th Street. SCCA is a non-profit, community pottery studio serving Chattanooga and the surrounding area, currently operating from cramped quarters in the Patten Center in Lookout Valley. The organization’s mission is to sustain the art and craft of all things clay through education, practice and the provision of an affordable workspace for beginners as well as experienced artisans.
“Our vision with this move is to gather dozens of diverse people in the downtown area to connect, create and celebrate through the approachable medium of clay,” said David Chambers, executive director. “We believe that art can create change and help us build a more inclusive, empathetic and just community. Besides, it’s fun!”
With the public's help, the movers will come in early January, and the studio will open soon after. A Facebook campaign is underway to gather the funds needed to move from the organization’s current location in Lookout Valley. Visit https://www.facebook.com/donate/1265721403467551/.
After the move, Scenic City Clay Arts will be positioned at the intersection of some of Chattanooga’s most racially and economically diverse urban neighborhoods (11th and King Street). The vision for SCCA is to become a community hub and common ground for everyone.
A 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, Scenic City Clay Arts offers a variety of services including a retail gallery, pottery classes and membership options. Memberships are available for individuals ($100) or families ($150). A full list of classes will be available by Jan. 1, on the SCCA website at sceniccityclayarts.org.
