  • Wednesday, November 30, 2016

University of Florida forward and Cleveland, Tn. native Brooke Copeland was announced Wednesday as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team -- one of the most prestigious off-the-court honors in women’s college basketball, officials said.

For the fifth year, Allstate and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association are recognizing a select group of women’s college basketball student-athletes for their remarkable community service achievements.

Officials said, "Ms. Copeland has done an extraordinary job of demonstrating leadership both on and off the court through her tireless dedication to giving back to others, including:

•  Speaking to grade school groups of students about the importance of sportsmanship;

•  Serving as a race day buddy during the Special Olympics Two-Miler for Special Olympics Athletes; and

•  Taking a leadership role at a Habitat for Humanity build where she supervised a group that was working on landscaping for homes.

From this year’s 97 nominees, a final roster of 10 award recipients - five players from the Division I level and five players from Divisions II, III and the NAIA - will be announced in February.
