Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke sent an appeal for more support for the Woodmore families on Friday. It said:
"It's been almost two weeks since a school bus carrying more than three dozen students from Woodmore Elementary crashed, forever changing the lives of so many in our community. Since that day, families have held funerals, churches have held vigils, and organizations across the state have held fundraisers. And while our city will never be the same, Chattanoogans came together to do what we always do in our darkest hour -- reach out a hand in love, support, and compassion.
"Earlier this week, we learned that contributions to the Woodmore Fund have exceeded $200,000. More than 1,500 individuals and organizations in Chattanooga and around the country have contributed to the fund so far.
"And today I want to challenge us to double that number.
"One hundred percent of donations made to the Woodmore Fund will go directly to the families impacted by the tragedy on Nov. 21. The dollars collected will pay for a variety of needs, ranging from medical bills, long-term care, mental health care, basic necessities, and much more.
"As a parent, I know nothing could ever take away the pain and loss the Woodmore families are experiencing. Their road ahead will be long and they will need the love and support of our entire community. By giving to the Woodmore Fund and sharing this email with your friends and family, we can hope to provide them just some relief -- even for just a few moments -- in the weeks, months, and years to come.
"Thank you for your generosity."
