Lee Smith, founder of the Tennessee Journal, has died.

Senator Lamar Alexander said, "For a half century, Lee Smith and his Tennessee Journal participated in Tennessee politics in a straightforward way that commanded the respect of both Democrats and Republicans. In between, he found time to be Vanderbilt’s most rabid basketball fan. He was my close friend. Honey and I will greatly miss him. We express to his family our deepest sympathy."
