Two persons were hurt, including a 13-year-old East Hamilton student who was seriously injured, when a driver fell asleep in East Ridge on Saturday morning.

East Ridge Police said Tymisha Dixon, 23, was traveling west on Ringgold Road near Altamaha Street "when she apparently fell asleep at the wheel" and hit the curb.

She then hit a parked red Ford F-150 pickup truck. Donald Britton, 68, of Rock Spring, Ga., had just gotten out on the driver's side. The 13-year-old had gotten out on the passenger side.

Mr. Britton was knocked to the ground.

The teen was thrown in the air and came to rest behind the pickup truck and under the rear of the Dixon vehicle. He is in the Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital.

The Dixon vehicle then struck a bicycle lane sign and a large utility pole. It then rotated counter clockwise and came to rest behind the pickup truck.

Debris from the Dixon struck a third vehicle that was parked at 5345 Ringgold Road.

Ms. Dixon, of 905 N. Chamberlain Ave., was not initially arrested, but the investigation is continuing.
