Littlefield Leads Group Urging That Jack Benson's Name Be Added At Heritage Park

  • Tuesday, December 6, 2016

Former Mayor Ron Littlefield on Tuesday night led a delegation to the City Council urging that the name of the late Jack Benson be added to the title of Heritage Park in East Brainerd.

He said the longtime councilman worked tirelessly to set up the park at East Brainerd Road and Jenkins Road.

Several City Council members indicated their support for the new name of Jack Benson Heritage Park.

Councilman Larry Grohn, who now serves in the District 4 post, asked for a vote on Jan. 10.

Former Mayor Littlefield said a number of people have signed a petition seeking the honor.

He said 15 former council members, including Education Commissioner John P. Franklin, have endorsed it.

Sally Robinson, former council member, was at the meeting with Mr. Benson's widow, Kay, and members of the Benson family, including children and grandchildren.

Janet Perfetti Sivils is also a leader in the effort.
