Charles Daniel Greene, Sr., 86, passed away on December 6, 2016, in a local hospital. 

He was born to the late Will S. and Mattie L. Greene on May 13, 1930, in Chattanooga.

Charles was a graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1950. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. He retired from TVA in 1988 after over 20 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of Second Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon, chairman of the board for two terms, superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday school teacher, and as an Evangelism School teacher, as well as in many other capacities. In his community, he was also a member of the Glenwood Neighborhood Association and the New City Fellowship 55+ Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Will S. and Mattie L. Greene; siblings, Will Greene, Jr., Nettie Greene, Billie Jean Greene, and William Ramseur; sister-in-law, Mary Willis; grandson, Marlon Ricks; and great-nephew, David Lawson.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Vivian P. Greene; daughter, Maria Greene (George Sr.) Ricks; sons, Eric C. Greene, Raymond L. (Linda) Greene, and Charles D. Greene Jr.; daughter/granddaughter, Ashley Greene, all of Chattanooga. Grandchildren George Ricks Jr. of Maryland; Maria, DeShanna, Darius, Christina, and Chalsea Greene; Jasmine (Edgar) Patton, Marcus (Natalya) Sanders, Jalette and Jacobi Sims, all of Chattanooga; sister, Doris Ramseur; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other family members and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Monday, Dec. 12, and the family will receive friends from 4–8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
