Silence From Rhonda Thurman

  • Friday, December 9, 2016

I find it deplorable that Rhonda Thurman is, once again, voicing her opinions so quickly and so vehemently.  She seems to be the one school board member that wants media and/or press coverage every time the opportunity avails itself.  However, when it comes to responding to personal emails sent directly to her…she zips her lips.

I, as all of the citizens of Hamilton County, was saddened and outraged over the recent Woodmore Elementary tragedy.  As I have become well known to watch the elected officials and what they do or don’t do, I sent an email to every member of the HCDE school board expressing my condolences and outrage.  Immediately, I received two responses — one from Steve Highlander and Joe Wingate.  After a follow-up email to the same people, both Tiffanie Robinson and Kathy Lennon replied; albeit, I am awaiting a follow-up response from Ms. Lennon.  I have yet to hear from any other school board member…especially Rhonda Thurman.

Does Ms. Thurman just pick and choose her responses to school board matters to coincide with media and/or press coverage?  Is she just trying to make a name for herself in order to further a possible political career?  Does she really care about the fiscal responsibility of the HCDE and safety of the thousands of children who ride Durham School Services buses back and forth to school each morning?  The answer is, I don’t know.  She won’t respond to a personal email.
