George Long

George Michael Long, 67, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016.

George was of the Baptist faith, a veteran who served in the army, he retired from Jat Oil & Supply after 35 years, was a Tennessee Vols and Atlanta Braves fan, a youth baseball fan where he coached and umpired, was named umpire of the year and had an award named after him. Above all he loved his brother, sisters, kids and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olander and Francis Long, and loving wife of 49 years, Peggy Ann Long.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Ronald) Wotring, son, Michael (Mandy) Long, sisters, Donna Long, and Renee Long, brother, Brian (Michelle) Long, and grandchildren, Paul, Bradley, and Erin Taylor, Maggie, Megan, and Mason Long.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Sterling Jetton officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 2-5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
