The County Commission is set to vote next Wednesday on the Bridge Plan for the county sheriff's office - allowing earlier retirement.
Officials said the cost to the county will be at least $350,000 per year.
Sheriff Jim Hammond said it will allow personnel to retire as early as age 55 and receive pay supplements until they reach Social Security at age 62.
He said 157 of the 167 affected officers are in favor.
The sheriff said one wrinkle is that it apparently would cause Chief Deputy Allen Branum to have to retire.
He said he may seek an attorney general's opinion on whether a chief deputy would be affected.
It does not apply to elected officials such as the sheriff.
