Mildred Louise Thomas Denton Tallent, 96, of Fort Oglethorpe, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Parkside Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 10, 1919, to the late Daniel Riley Thomas and Hallie Matthews Thomas in Jasper, Tn., Mrs. Tallent had spent the greater part of her life in Fort Oglethorpe and was a longtime member of Park City Baptist Church.  She had attended Revival Baptist Church in Chickamauga for several years and retired from Lay Drug Company following many years of service.  Mrs. Tallent loved her parakeets, her poodles, collecting dolls, and stuffed animals.  She also enjoyed going to church, attending revivals, gospel singings and spending time with her family and friends. 

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ernest A. Denton, second husband, Paul S. Tallent, step-son, Alvin Earl ”Tod” Denton, and granddaughter, Patricia Denton Lowery.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Betty Silver Denton of Chickamauga; granddaughters, Michelle (Gary) Harbour of Fort Oglethorpe, and Lisa (Randal) Dalton of Chickamauga; grandson, Ronnie T. (Beverly) Denton of Chickamauga; nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Bill Proctor and Reverend Tim Turnipseed officiating.  She will be laid to rest beside her first husband in the Old Rugged Cross section of Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 4–8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
