A city of Chattanooga board on Wednesday discussed whether to save advertising costs by setting their meetings at regular times each month and putting in one newspaper ad a year.
The Chattanooga Downtown Redevelopment Corporation decided to continue paying the Chattanooga Times Free Press some $175 per meeting.
Julian Bell, board member, noted that the CDRC usually meets in response to a specific need.
With a regular schedule, he said there might not be anything on the agenda for a particular meeting.
He also noted that the board often has every member there because members are polled on when they will be available.
Earlier, the city Industrial Development Board opted to have regular meetings advertised once a year.
City Attorney Wade Hinton is asking boards to consider cutting down on ad costs.
Under current state law, legal notices have to be in the local print newspaper.
Senator Todd Gardenhire is sponsoring a bill that would allow the legal notices to be valid by being posted on government websites.
