Graves Votes For Debt Management And Fiscal Responsibility Act

  • Thursday, February 11, 2016
Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) on Thursday voted for and the House passed the Debt Management and Fiscal Responsibility Act (H.R. 3442), legislation that would require the president to submit a plan to Congress before the debt ceiling is reached detailing the drivers of the national debt and proposals to reduce it.

“The national debt is a threat to the prosperity and security of all Americans,” said Rep. Graves. “In recent years, the House has passed plans to balance the budget within 10 years and reform the primary drivers of our debt, Medicare and Social Security.
We’ve never received a serious counter offer from the president, only negative attacks. This bill requires the president to send a real debt reduction proposal to Congress. We can’t afford to put off the difficult decisions. The leadership of our nation must care more about the next generation than the next election.”

The national debt is currently more than $19 trillion.
