Lessons From My Dad, Marty Haynes - And Response (3)

  • Friday, February 12, 2016

Enough is enough. I have heard Marty Haynes’ name drug through the mud for far too long. Let me tell you a few things that I have learned from my father, that now as a family man myself I realize are far more important than anything else.

1. Be Faithful in your Service- My dad learned this trait from my grandparents, Dub and Norma Haynes- Mr. and Mrs. Hixson High 1951, that you are just meant to help people out. Dad didn’t start helping people when he ran for the County Commission the first time in 2012. No, it started long before that. Weather it was a field trip or field days in elementary school, teaching youth Sunday school, being involved at the Ronald McDonald house, coaching youth league sports, or any number of other places. He has always had a desire to be involved and help people out.

2. Be a Father- Be involved in the lives of your children. Now as a father I am thankful that I had someone to teach me how to do this. I have no greater job than to teach my children about Jesus, like my Dad did me. I will never forget Dad taking me to Bible Drill when I was a little kid- many of those verses I memorized then and can recall them easily today. Dad was also of course involved in my education and athletic career all through college- calling me daily to find out how school and practice were going. You don’t even have to ask him about his grandchildren, he will bring it up- he loves being “Pop-pop” to my kids. Once again, my Dad just being there to help people out, in this case it is me, my brother, and my children.

3. Be a Follower of Christ- Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. I have seen Dad live out Christ’s Greatest Command. It is easy to love Jesus when you are on top of the mountain- I’ve seen Dad do that. It isn’t easy to love Jesus when things are going wrong- but I’ve seen Dad do that. His personal relationship with Christ has been second to none in good times and in bad and most importantly will continue the rest of his life.

I ask for your support and vote for my dad, Marty Haynes, during early voting that ends Feb. 23 and on Election Day March 1.

The term “experience” keeps popping up in the race for the Assessor of Property.  I am going to vote for Marty Haynes based on his experience.  As a successful business man, Marty has already managed a multi-million dollar budget and balanced a book of business that prioritized customers.  His experience has already shown him that the Assessor’s Office needs updating to make online filing possible, along with many other services that are currently not available unless you are in the office – between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. – hours that certainly don’t serve the working public.

It’s pretty simple.  If you want to vote for a candidate that has a lot of government experience that has never made suggestions for these improvements, you have two choices. If you want a businessman who’s got a fresh approach to serving taxpayers, then Marty Haynes is the obvious choice.  Join me in voting for Marty Haynes.

I believe we have several fine people vying for the position of Hamilton County Assessor of Property. However, I only know one of the candidates. In my 17 years as teacher and principal at Hixson High School, I had the pleasure of meeting and becoming associated with thousands of outstanding young people. I have kept up with many of them as they have grown from teenagers, as I knew them then, into some of our county's finest professionals, and Marty Haynes is one of them.

Although he has not sought my support in writing on his behalf, I am honored to do just that. Politically, he is a level headed, principled, conservative. As County Commissioner, he has chosen, on several occasions, not to follow the crowd, but to do the right thing. I believe we can also trust him to do the right thing as Assessor of Property.

Marty Haynes has my support.

I was asked by numerous friends and acquaintances to run for Assessor of Property.  However, when Marty Haynes decided to run, I knew he was the perfect person to assume that office.

I have known Marty for many years and know him to be an honest, Christian man.  He is a natural born leader with over 30 years of management experience.  The office of assessor is not one that requires a lot of “property value” knowledge, but one that requires a man to know his employees and how to manage those employees to do their best work. Currently, that office is in dire need of an update that will lead our county into 2020’s and 30’s. Marty has the experience to do that.

For all the folks that encouraged me to run, I urge you to support and vote for Marty Haynes.  The choice is clear.
