John Maclin Harrison
John Maclin Harrison, 78, died Friday, February 12, 2016.
John was born March 21, 1937 to Robert Maclin Harrison and Tottie de Graffenried Harrison in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He grew up in southern Maryland, where he graduated from La Plata High School in 1955. He attended the University of Arizona and came back east to graduate from the University of Richmond. Upon college graduation, he joined the Navy, attending Navy OCS in New Port, Rhode Island. He became a communications officer on the USS Shangri-La CVA 38, serving during the Cuban missile crisis.
In 1962, he married Susan Pfeffer, and they recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. After completing his Navy service, John began a career in the textile/carpet industry. He worked with various companies throughout South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Oklahoma. He was an inventor and a problem solver. In 1987 he, with partners, established Aesops Inc. from which he retired in 2010.
His parents and a sister, Vivien Lee Shuttleworth, preceded him in death.
Left to celebrate his life with wonderful memories are his wife Susan; sister, Chris Rivers; beloved sons, Robert Christian, Benjamin John and Andrew Maclin Harrison; precious daughters-in-law, Amy and Tonya, and grandchildren, Olivia, Wesley, William, Henry and James Harrison who were his pride and joy.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 17, at 1 p.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. The family will receive visitors from noon until 1 in the St. Martin's atrium.
