In the latest Get Fit Challenge, Mayor Andy Berke asks Chattanoogans to compete this week to take the most steps, while continuing to try new fitness and outdoor activities throughout the month of February. The Get Fit Challenge is a new initiative that showcases the variety of outdoor opportunities available to everyone in Chattanooga and demonstrates how easy it is to add different fitness activities to a daily routine.
“Chattanooga is known for its great outdoors, and it’s why so many people call the Scenic City home,” said Mayor Berke.
“The Get Fit Challenge shows how these fitness experiences are closer than you think, yet you don’t need to be the fittest athlete or have the most expensive gear to get moving outside.”
This coming Friday, Mayor Berke invites Chattanoogans to take some extra steps with him in a walk around downtown, starting at Miller Park at 12:30 p.m. Walkers can enjoy some fresh air and camaraderie on a brief stroll with the Mayor.
“Adding just a few extra steps into your regular fitness routine can have a big payoff, whether it’s taking a lunchtime walk with friends and coworkers or walking with your child to the bus stop,” said Mayor Berke. “The Get Fit Challenge inspires us all to get moving, and experiencing these new adventures enhances our health and quality of life.”
As part of an overall healthy lifestyle, it is recommended to walk 10,000 steps a day. All week, Mayor Berke will be tracking his steps, and he challenges everyone to join him and post photos of outdoor experiences and activities with friends to social media using #CHAGetFit.
