Tuesday, the Southern League announced that long time Lookouts Broadcaster Larry “The Voice” Ward will be inducted into the Southern League Hall of Fame at the 2016 All-Star Game in Pearl, Miss., June 21.  Ward will be joined by fellow inductees, Peter Bragan Jr., John Shoemaker and Larry Schmittou.

“It is very humbling to be selected to the Southern League Hall of Fame,” said Ward.

“This career is a 34-year adventure in baseball with 29 years in the Southern League. My first phone calls about this honor were to my wife, Nelle and our daughter Megan to thank them for being a part of this honor.

"Over 4,000 games, 300,000 bus miles and a bevy of hot dogs are behind me. When I began the adventure, being in a Hall of Fame was never on my mind. I thank a lot of people and especially Frank Burke who believed in me every day to "tell it like it is" and love the game. Thank you fellow broadcasters, fans, listeners and friends of baseball for without you this honor would not have been possible.”

Five Lookouts: Ward is the fifth Lookout to be selected for the hall by the Southern League joining former Lookouts owner Frank Burke, baseball hall of fame infielder/outfielder Harmon Killebrew, pitcher Trevor Hoffman and manager Razor Shines (2014 season).

This season Ward will be entering his 28th consecutive season calling Lookouts baseball and is the longest tenured broadcaster in the Southern League.  “The Voice” has been a staple in the Chattanooga Community for many years and was inducted into the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

“Larry is a legend in Minor League Baseball and in this community.  It is great to see him get the recognition he deserves,” said Lookouts President Rich Mozingo.  “Our whole staff could not be more excited or proud of our co-worker and friend.”

This weekend the Lookouts are hosting the East-West Showdown presented by the Classic 150 at AT&T Field. Tickets for the opening weekend series begin at $6 and can be purchased at the Lookouts’ ticket office, online or by phone at 423-267-4849. The three-game series opens this Friday, February 19 at 5:00 p.m. and will continue through the weekend with games beginning at 1:00 p.m. on both Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21.
