Big Brothers Big Sisters hosted its annual Mentor Appreciation party for their volunteers to celebrate National Mentoring Month on Thursday, Jan. 28, at The Walden Club in downtown Chattanooga.
With a great turnout of close to 100 people, including board members and staff, the party was a success, honoring volunteers and all they do for the vulnerable children in the Greater Chattanooga area. \ Lurone “Coach” Jennings gave a very inspiring talk about how having a mentor growing up shaped his life and even though he had a support system in place, he still made mistakes but his mentors stood by his side and guided him through the good and bad. Trent Williams entertained the guests with the wonderful music and delicious food was catered in house by the Walden Club.
Officials said, "Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga changes the way vulnerable children see the world and interact with it. Our programs are proven to reduce a child’s risk of dropping out of school, becoming violent, and falling victim to other negative cycles. Through simple friendship, “Bigs” experience the joy of helping children discover a world of possibilities and opportunities. Last year, more than 360 children were served. Currently, there are 165 children waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or a Big Sister, 80% of which are boys. It only takes four to six hours a month to be a Big Brother or a Big Sister. You, don’t have to change your life to change a child’s life."
