Justice Robert Page
In a historic first, Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Roger Page has been confirmed by the Tennessee General Assembly for a seat on the Tennessee Supreme Court.
In a unanimous vote during a joint convention of the House and Senate, Justice Page was confirmed Monday night by the 109th Tennessee General Assembly. The confirmation is the first of its kind in Tennessee, brought about by a constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2014 that granted the Legislature confirmation powers for all appellate court appointees. Governor Bill Haslam appointed Justice Page to the Supreme Court on Jan. 7.
“We’ve been eagerly anticipating Justice Page’s confirmation and we look forward to having his voice and experience on the Tennessee Supreme Court,” said Chief Justice Sharon Lee. “We congratulate Governor Haslam on making an excellent choice and appreciate the work of the General Assembly on quickly confirming Justice Page.”
Justice Page was appointed to the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in 2011 by Governor Haslam. He previously served as a circuit court judge for the 26th Judicial District, which includes Chester, Henderson and Madison counties.
Prior to his experience on the bench, Justice Page was assistant attorney general in Jackson from 1991-1998. He practiced at Holmes, Rich, Sigler & Page, P.C. in Jackson from 1987-1991. He was an associate at Peterson, Young, Self & Asselin in Atlanta from 1985-1987 and a law clerk for then-U.S. District Court Judge Julia Smith Gibbons from 1984-1985. Justice Page received his law degree with honors in 1984 from the University of Memphis, where he ranked 4th in his class.
Before his legal career, Justice Page was a pharmacist. He received a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy in 1978 from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1973-1975 after graduating from Chester County High School in Henderson.
Justice Page, 60, is married to Davidson County Chancellor Carol McCoy and they reside in Medina.
Justice Page was sworn in Monday night by fellow Justice Jeffrey Bivins.
