Operation Song helps veterans and active duty service men and women through therapeutic songwriting. The non-profit organization began in Murfreesboro with Grammy Award nominated songwriter Bob Regan and has spread to Memphis and Chattanooga.
Essentially six veterans are brought into an eight-week class where singer/songwriters Don Goodman and Steve Dean come from Nashville to listen to their stories and write with them.
At the end of the program, each veteran comes out of the class with not only a great experience and an opportunity to share his/her story but also a professionally produced song on an album, said officials.
The Lifestyle Center in Chattanooga will be hosting a graduation ceremony for eight veterans on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. They will be presented with the album and a certificate. Many of these veterans will stay to serve on the alumni committee.
This past weekend a retreat was held in Dalton with Mr. Goodman, Mr. Regan and Mr. Dean, along with other songwriters from Nashville. Operation Song is planning on hosting more events including potentially Pops in the Park and Nightfall where artists will represent the organization.
