Lester Ray Hobbs, 71, of Dalton, Georgia, died on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the local hospital.
Ray was born Sept. 3, 1944 in Dalton. Ray was a truck driver at Global Textile for many years and was a member of Tilton Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by grandsons, Steven Kyle Roberts and Josh Brewer; his father and step-mother, Ralph and Mary Hobbs; mother and step-father, Sadie Mae and Hobart Lumpkin; and a brother, Roger Lumpkin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce Goswick Hobbs of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Kerri Hobbs of Ringgold, GA and Billy and Darla Hobbs of Dalton, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Shiela Roberts of Calhoun, GA, Karen and Bradley Fisher of Rocky Face, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Doris Hobbs of Cartersville, GA, Billy and Evaline Hobbs of Sugar Valley, GA, Randy Lumpkin of Dalton, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenda and Jim Lowery of Summerset, KY, Barbara and Jerry Rhodes of Dalton, GA, Kay and Mike Young of Calhoun, GA; six grandchildren, Tawni Harris, Tiffani Roberts, Hunter Hobbs, Cody Roberts, Trever Hobbs and Kensley Fisher; three great-grandchildren, Tanlee, Oliver and Sadie Rae; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. at Swamp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend George Ross and Reverend Scott Chastain officiating. Hunter Hobbs, Trever Hobbs, Cody Roberts, Alex Harris, Dewayne Fisher and Zach Huggins will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26.
