Gerald “Buzzy” Wayne Smith, 74, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Cleveland, TN. He was a 50 year member of United Association Journeymen and Apprentice of the Plumbers and Pipefitting Industry Local 43. Buzzy was actively involved at the Ruritan Club where he cooked and participated in many charitable duties. He volunteered at a McDonald and the Cleveland Mall precinct. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning. He’s an avid bird watcher and loved the wildlife that surrounds his property. His passion was his family and good friends and frequently hosted gatherings at his home.
He was preceded in death by parents, John Peter “JP” “Smitty” Smith and Edna Earl Ogle; and wife of 20 years, Donna Canfield.
He is survived by his former wife of 33 years, Peggy Smith; children, Seretha Smith Anderson and her husband, Peter of Tampa, FL, Byron J. Smith and his wife, Angela of Tellico Plains, TN, Trina Smith Jordan and her husband, Steve of Etowah, TN and David Smith of Chattanooga; step-son, Steven Canfield and his wife, Sherry of Greenwood, SC; grandchildren, Jake Burger, Mandi Burger, Allie Anderson, Cameron Smith, Kelley Burger, Savannah Smith, Jack Anderson and Jaxon Smith; great-grandchild, Shane Burger; step-granddaughter, Anna Canfield; sister, Wanda Nord; girlfriend, Dianne Wade; best friend and brother-in-law, Ted Bayne; and numerous cousins, other extended family members and special friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 2p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5 at the funeral home and Saturday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
