Lee University’s Evangelistic Singers and Campus Choir will present a benefit concert on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Pangle Hall. Funds raised during the concert will go towards the Education for Eliana organization.
E4E is inspired by Eliana Hoagland, daughter of Lee alumnae Amy Hoagland. Eliana was born with Spinal Cerebellar Ataxia, which shrinks the cerebellum in the brain over time, affecting her speech, balance, and her process of learning. Because of the disease, Eliana learns at a different pace and is in need of a more attentive education. She is able to receive this education at Bachman Academy, but the cost to attend is high. The concert will raise money to supplement Eliana's education.
Because of Eliana’s condition, the Hoaglands are working to establish a nonprofit organization for children who need educational resources. These resources, which include therapies, assistive technology, tutoring, tuition assistance, and adaptive equipment, will help individuals focus on their educational needs regardless of their disability. E4E will raise funds and support for families and children who have the desire to learn but are struggling for more academic support.
The benefit concert will offer a worship experience and an opportunity to hear more about the resources they are raising funds for.
“We are so blessed to be able to spend a day of worship with EVS and Campus Choir and are so grateful to Lee University for everything they have done to make this day a reality,” said Ms. Hoagland.
Evangelistic Singers, directed by Gloria Scott-Richmond, seek God through the art of worship within the genres of spirituals and both traditional and contemporary gospel music. In addition to the southeastern United States, this auditioned choir of approximately 50 students has performed throughout Bermuda and the Caribbean.
For more than 50 years, Campus Choir has been a Christ-centered auditioned touring choir, performing at the university as well as across the Eastern United States and international venues. Campus Choir is directed by Jimmy Phillips.
"It is with much joy that we join our voices, loving hearts, and helping hands to support the Hoaglands and many others,” said Ms. Scott-Richmond. “It will be a great afternoon with great music for a great cause!”
The concert is free and open to the public.
