The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team evened its season record at 2-2 with a 7-0 win over Tennessee Wesleyan at the Champions Club today. The Mocs won nine of 10 matches to earn their second team win of the year.
UTC clinched the doubles point quickly with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Freshman Pablo Llebeili and senior Nick Wingord won at No. 2, followed by freshman Paul Lahue and sophomore Michael Birnbaumat No. 3.
"Tennessee Wesleyan came to play today," stated head coach Carlos Garcia.
"They were tough in some spots and made us uncomfortable in some matches.
"It was nice to get outdoors and get some matches in, especially for our young guys. We needed this win and we needed the experience."
UTC swept the singles in straight sets. Wingord was first off at No. 2, followed by Llebeili at No. 4. Senior Luke Saunders won at No. 3 to clinch the team win, followed by junior Derek Brown at No. 5.
Lahue and junior Lucas Plesky both needed tiebreakers to win their first sets. Lahue won 6-4 in the second at No. 6. Plesky ended the day with a 6-4 win in the second at No. 1.
UTC is back on the court this weekend against Belmont and Covenant. Both matches are Saturday at the Racquet Club in Hixson. First serve against the Bruins is 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. against the Scots. Links for live scoring for both are available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
