The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera announced its 2016/17 season on Thursday, to subscribers and donors at an exclusive preview event. Leading the announcement was news that the CSO will be performing its first fully-produced opera since 2009, Madame Butterfly. There will be two performances on Thursday, March 23 and Saturday, March 25, 2017, conducted by CSO Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt, with Camille Zamora in the title role, at the Tivoli Theatre. Tickets are available only to 2016/17 subscribers on a pre-sale basis. Remaining tickets will be released for public sale on August 1.

The Barnett & Company Masterworks Series opens with Strauss’ Don Juan and Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto, performed by Ning An. On the series, the CSO will perform works from four living composers, including Joan Tower, James Stephenson, Kendra D’Ercole (a world premiere) and returning composer, Ola Gjeilo. All but Tower will be in Chattanooga during the weeks that their works are performed.

Other highlights include the Beethoven Choral Fantasy with the CSO Chorus and Spencer Myer on piano, Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony, Dvorak’s 7th Symphony, Hummel’s Concerto for Trumpet featuring the Metropolitan Opera’s principal trumpet, Billy Hunter, Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, Mahler’s 4th Symphony, and Debussy’s La Mer. Other guest artists include cellist Joshua Roman, soprano Maria Valdes, baritone Robert Barefield, and the CSO’s Concertmaster Holly Mulcahy. CSO Music Director Kayoko Dan conducts all seven concerts at the Tivoli Theatre.

Subscriptions start at $126 for all seven concerts. Children 17 and under can attend for free with a paid adult. Contact: Samantha Teter, Interim Executive Director and Director of Marketing Phone: 423 267-8583 ext.2104 Email: steter@chattanoogasymphony.org.

Bob Bernhardt conducts all but the holiday programs. All Pops concerts are performed at the Tivoli Theatre. Subscriptions start at $95 for all five programs.

The Chamber Series, performed at the Historic Read House Silver Ballroom, returns with four concerts featuring the CSO’s chamber orchestra and ensembles. This series features works by two local composers, Jonathan McNair and Douglas Hedwig. Highlights include Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess, Mozart’s Serenade #12 for Winds, Haydn’s Symphony No. 31, Bottesini’s Double Bass Concerto featuring CSO Principal Bass Taylor Brown, and Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony. Each artist’s performance is professionally choreographed to classical masterpieces. This Halloween-themed event, conducted by Kayoko Dan, is Friday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium. 2016/17 subscribers have pre-sale access to this special event.
