Lee Softball 3-2 At Gulf Shores Invitational

Thanks to five home runs the Lee softball team swung past Tuskegee, 14-5 to finish up the Gulf Shores Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Flames ended the three-day event with a 3-2 mark and are now 5-3 overall.

Tuskegee falls to 0-4 on the young season.

The home run derby started early as NiaRaye Ceasar launched a two-run bomb in the top of the first to put Lee up early. 

Tuskegee added a solo run in the first but the Lady Flames bounced right back with two more tallies in the second frame on a Stevie Baird double and an Amanda Lynn single.

The Golden Tigers kept within shouting distance as Roneshia Rudolph stole home to cut the Lady Flames' lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the second. 

From that point on however it was all Lee. Freshman Hallie Davis continued her torrid start at the plate with two more home runs in the sixth and seventh innings and finished with three RBI. The local product from Walker Valley High School has already hit five dingers in just eight collegiate starts. 

Lee broke the contest open with an eight-run seventh inning as Emily Dagnan, Davis and Stevie Baird all homered. Baird also added a double, a single and drove in four runs to cap off the weekend.

Angie Hughes (2-2) was solid in the circle for Lee and worked six innings allowing two runs on six hits for her second win of the season. After struggling with control in her previous outings, the senior demonstrated great control allowing no free passes while dialing up seven punch outs.

Chante Warner registered a double and single while Kaylin Finch and Jamaica Williams added two hits each to lead the Golden Tigers.

Tori Beth Garner tossed 6 1/3 innings for Tuskegee and allowed 11 runs on 12 hits. Acey Spence came on in relief to record the final two outs while surrendering three more runs on four hits.

The Lee offense is hitting at a .357 clip with nine home runs and 72 runs scored through eight games. 

The Lady Flames will look to keep the bats sizzling as they open up conference play against West Florida at Butler Field next weekend. The three game tilt will open with a doubleheader at 2 p.m.  on Saturday.

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Lee softball wrapped up day two of the Gulf Shores Invitational on Saturday with a 9-7 loss to No. 7 University of Missouri-St. Louis. Earlier in the day the Lady Flames topped Montevallo, 7-5..

The Lady Flames jumped out to an early lead in Saturday's nightcap as Dagnan drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Macy Stovall worked a bases loaded walk. 

The No. 7th ranked Tritons fired back in the first and tied things up. After the two clubs each tallied single runs in the second Courtney Crawford wreak havoc with a RBI single and then preceded to steal second and allow Hallie Davis to score on a throwing error.

USML struck for four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Sara Kern got things going with a run-scoring double. Rachel Mattheis also double home a run while Ryan Logan and Kaitlin Fraser registered sacrifice flys.

Freshman Madyson Stallcup (0-1) was tagged with the loss for Lee. Stallcup worked 2 1/3 allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks. Bri Eichbaum led the Lady Flames out of the third inning before Hailey Clark took over for the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Freshman Hallie Davis hit her third home run of the year in the fourth inning and Lexie Dean singled in a run in the fifth but the Lady Flames would not draw any closer.and junior Courtney Crawford tallied three hits to lead the Lady Flames offensive attack.

Kelsey Bailey started for the Tritons and went two innings allowing five runs (three earned). Carly Kingerly followed with two relief innings yielding one run while striking out four to earn the victory. Hannah Perryman closed things out with four strikeouts in the final two innings to claim the save.

Playing for the second time in three days the Lee softball defeated Montevallo, 7-5 on Saturday afternoon in the Gulf Shores Invitational.

The first meeting saw the Lady Flames claim an 18-7 run-rule victory but today's contest proved to be a tougher test.

Montevallo held a 3-run lead after two but the Lady Flames climbed back into the game with a 2-run third and then opened things up with a five-run fourth inning.

NiaRaye Ceasar got the offense going with a two-run double in the third frame.

Freshman Stevie Baired started off the fourth inning rally with a RBI double. Lexie Dean followed with a two-run double to account for one of her four hits. Emily Dagnan finished things off with a single leading to the fifth run of the frame after a Montevallo throwing error.

Freshman Halle Davis added a double while freshman Macey Stovall and junior Rachel Polacek stroked two singles each.

Angie Hughes (1-2) recorded her first win of the year, working five innings allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits. The senior struck out five and walked four. Hailey Clark finished off the victory pitching two innings in relief. Clark surrendered a run on three hits.

Jana Armstrong started for the Eagles and allowed five runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. Abbey Pratt came on in the fourth and retired two batters while giving up two more runs. Jostlyn Higgerson was the third pitcher to appear and tossed three scoreless innings while striking out four.

Celestia Davlia led Montevallo with four hits and two RBI. Leadoff hitter Kelsey Vinning add two hits and scored three runs.
