Leland Buell “Lee” Godfrey, Jr. ,78, died on Monday, March 14, 2016.

He was born in Atlanta, and moved to Signal Mountain in the third grade. He was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, and attended the Journey Sunday School Class.

Lee graduated from The Baylor School in 1955 and the University of Chattanooga in 1959 with a degree in business. He serviced three years in the U. S. Army after receiving a commission through R.O.T.C., and several years in the Army National Guard. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Lee spent 41 years in the Portland Cement industry retiring from Signal Mountain Cement.

Lee was a member of Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club and an avid golfer. He was a three-time president of the Mocs Club and loved UTC sports.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Leland B. Godfrey Sr. and Margaret G. Godfrey; and a son, Scott Leland Godfrey.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years and childhood sweetheart, Emily C. Godfrey; one brother, Edward W. Godfrey and his wife Suzanne of Atlanta; son, Dr. Andrew G. Godfrey and his wife, Gwen of Simpsonville, SC; and two grandchildren, Danielle and Grayson Godfrey.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. William Dudley and Reverend Margaret Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in memory of Lee to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, 612 James Blvd., Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377, or to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletic Program, Dept. 6806, 615 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.
