Home Damaged By Fire Friday Night In North Chattanooga

  • Saturday, March 26, 2016
No injuries were reported in connection with a house fire Friday evening in North Chattanooga.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 09:24 p.m. and responded to 520 Graham Street with multiple fire companies. The first firefighters on the scene confirmed the fire and initially called for a second alarm response. On-scene firefighters quickly accessed the fire and made an aggressive attack. The second alarm was canceled soon afterward as the initial attack quickly extinguished the flames. Fortunately, the one woman in the house managed to get out of the structure uninjured.

She had been resting in another part of the home when she noticed the flames through a window. She then made her way out of the residence and called 911 from a cell phone.

It took the firefighters roughly half an hour to get the blaze under control.  Captain Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division said the fire appears to have started on the back porch, though what sparked the blaze remains undetermined and is under investigation.

There was approximately $110,000 damage to the structure.
