City Council Agrees To Drop Subpoena For DA Pinkston After He Agrees To Meet With Mayor

  • Tuesday, March 29, 2016

The City Council on Tuesday voted to drop a subpoena it had issued for District Attorney Neal Pinkston after it was noted that he has agreed to meet with Mayor Andy Berke on the Violence Reduction Initiative.

DA Pinkston had declined to honor the council's subpoena, saying instead he would meet with the mayor.

Council members said they believed their subpoena "had achieved the objective."

Councilman Chip Henderson said, "Our goal has been achieved with this new spirit of cooperation."

Councilman Chris Anderson said he had made the motion for the subpoena "to encourage dialogue and cooperation."

The meeting between the mayor and district attorney is set for Friday afternoon.

DA officials said, "The meeting will be private. Unless Mayor Berke chooses to talk publicly about it, the specifics of their conversation will remain confidential."
