Judge Robert E. Lee Davies
The Tennessee Supreme Court has appointed former judge and Williamson County attorney Robert E. Lee Davies to the position of senior judge.
Judge Davies practices family law, personal injury, and business litigation in Williamson County. He served from 2000-2008 as a circuit court judge in the 21st Judicial District, handling both civil and criminal cases. He also has served as special judge for the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
“The people of Williamson County have received the benefit of Judge Davies’ experience and expertise and now these resources will be available all across Tennessee,” Chief Justice Sharon Lee said. Judge Davies replaces Judge Ben Cantrell, who has served as a senior judge for the past four years, following a 30-year career at the trial and appellate level.
In addition to his legal practice, Judge Davies teaches family law at Nashville School of Law and is a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31-listed mediator.
Judge Davies is a member of the Williamson County Bar Association and the Tennessee Bar Association, as well as the Tennessee Bar Foundation and the Tennessee John Marshall Chapter of the American Inn of Court. He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1982 and has a bachelor’s degree from Washington & Lee University. Judge Davies and his wife, Robin Denton Davies, live in Franklin.
Senior judges are employed by the Supreme Court to hear cases in which other judges cannot serve because of a conflict, or in courts where there is a vacancy. Tennessee state law authorizes the Supreme Court to appoint senior judges to “promote the effective administration of justice.” Other senior judges in Tennessee are Judge Don Ash, Judge Paul Summers and Judge William Acree.
